Palmas (hand clapping) is key to establishing flamenco tempo and rhythm. The technique and etiquette of this part of the flamenco experience was shared with us on Wed., Nov. 29 by Cristo, a local flamenco dancer born and raised in Granada.

In a candlelit secret room of the Carmen Mirador Morayma, seven of us – guests of Cristo – experienced an insider’s perspective of this art form unique to Spain and, in particular, born in this very region of the country. We only scratched the surface of the many layers of flamenco.

We couldn’t help but stay for dinner in the Mirador Restaurant inside this carmen with its stunning views of the Nasrid Palaces, great service, carefully cultivated art and antiques, and, of course, wonderful food. We were fortunate to get in without a reservation because it was mid-week and not tourist season, but reservations are recommended.

Our first flamenco of this trip through Andalucia was at Tableau El Jaleo Cordoba.
